Experience-Based Gifts that Create Memories, Not Waste

So many amazing options for gifts that don’t just add to a landfill pile…gifts that encourage adventure, trying new things, relaxation, and so much more. And no matter where you live, there are probably options available to you. You can support local or shop a small business from afar.
- Farm Shares. I’m pretty excited that this Spring we’ll be a pick up location for Feral Petal Grove. Their subscriptions would make a pretty amazing gift (that truly keeps on giving) and goes to support regenerative farming practices. Win-win. Not local? Research a CSA or Flower Share option near you!
- Season Passes. Do you (or your loved ones?) have a favorite place that you frequent? A museum/season pass makes for a great gift. Our family loves The Heritage Museums and Gardens, but endless possibilities for an individual or family.
- Donations. We are fortunate enough to have everything we need and this year (and last year) my mom donated to Wildlands Trust, one of our favorite local organizations, in our name. We are honored, we don’t get something that ends up in the landfill, and we know that the donation will help preserve some of our favorite places.
- Fun story…kinda,…years ago my husband gifted me a cooking class….it was so much fun. It was a Caribbean cooking class. We made delicious marinated jerk chicken, fried yucca, plantains,...and honestly I can’t remember what else… and then when I asked him what he wanted for his birthday dinner, he said, ‘oh the stuff that we made in that cooking class,” Okay cool. So I marinated the chicken for us and a few friends…and got the other stuff going, only to find that he invited an additional 6 folks ½ way into a 24 hour marinade. Oh and then there was a crazy heat wave. So gifting a cooking class…will certainly make for amazing memories. Locally, our friends at H. Cole, have some fun Cook Club events going on! There is no shortage of classes- On my 2026 is to check out the new Bind Yoga down the road!
- Anything Spa: Yes please. I have been wanting to explore some of the other services at The Modern Acupuncturist.
- I love print. Grab a subscription to a magazine….we love The Flow Trip in our house, local Arty Pants Magazine, Vanity Fair…and I got my daughter Anyway Magazine
- Something that doesn’t cost a lot? Homemade Coupons! I love a good coupon (especially if you follow through!!) for a car detailing from my kids, or some extra household chores off my plate.
- Not an experience per say…but gifting a Ridwell Kit is a great way to get a friend or family member reducing their landfill trash. Super easy!
- Still stuck? We always offer gift cards in store and online for folks near and far… (as do all the other wonderful small businesses) so can they can grab what they want! Bonus tip: Our gift cards are always plastic free, but other spots, you can likely print online and it’ll be plastic free.
