Sustainable Wrapping Tips

Our favorite sustainable wrapping tips! Why? Because over 2 million pounds of wrapping paper ends up in the landfill annually.

Do’s

  • reuse! old wrapping paper, kraft paper from shipments, cloth storage bags, newspaper, even the paper from the who gives a crap rolls...get creative!
  • use up what you have first
  • opt for reuseable bags
  • opt for materials that are compostable, think: unbleached paper, raffia ribbon, cotton
  • get creative (if that’s your thing): add your own designs on a plain surface, block print (you can use a potato!), or add natural materials for embellishment (cinnamon sticks, dried oranges)
  • experiment with furoshiki. you can grab wraps specifically for this purpose or upcycle old scarves and fabric

Don’ts

  • put wrapping paper in the recycling. Sorry it’s not recyclable (at least most of it. if it feels like regular non glossy paper, you’re good). otherwise, fold it neatly to reuse if it’s a big enough piece.
  • recycle tissue paper (the fibers are too short). reuse it or avoid it! natural kraft tissue paper is compostable however.
  • USE GLITTER. pure microplastics (and not recyclable...AND messy!)

Lots of options for composting too!

Not sure you have anything to reuse this year? or don't have time to go hunting, but still want to be sustainable? Snag some of our kraft paper rolls and raffia.
